Greenvolt project financing totals €284 million for Romania’s Gurbanesti wind farm

Financing package for 253.1 MW Gurbanesti project

Greenvolt has secured €284 million in project financing for its 253.1 MW Gurbanesti wind farm in Romania, as part of the company’s Wind Rose platform. The financing brings total funding arranged for the two-project platform to €632 million. The Gurbanesti project is under construction in Călărași county.

Commercial operation is scheduled for the end of 2027. The wind farm will span the municipalities of Gurbanesti, Nicolae Bălcescu and Valea Argovei. The development is supported by Romania’s Contracts for Difference scheme, including support secured through the August 2025 auction.

Turbine supply and revenue support under CfD scheme

The project will use 42 GE Vernova turbines with 158-metre rotor diameters. A supply agreement was announced in December 2025. Support under the Contracts for Difference scheme is intended to provide a more predictable revenue base for part of the project’s future production.

The financing involves eight institutions: UniCredit, Erste Group Bank, Banca Comercială Română, Siemens Bank, Société Générale, BRD, ING Bank and Alpha Bank. With the funding commitments in place, the next milestone is delivery. Construction, grid connection and commissioning are required to convert the financing into operating assets.

Ialomița wind farm and Wind Rose platform scale

The second Wind Rose development is the 253.1 MW Ialomița wind farm, which is also under construction and expected to begin operating in 2027. Greenvolt arranged €348 million of financing for Ialomița in February. Together, financing has been secured for roughly 506 MW across the two wind farms.

The KKR-backed group reports a Romanian development portfolio of 707 MW of wind, 58 MW of solar, and 209 MW of battery storage. The Wind Rose platform’s progress now depends on completing construction, grid connection and commissioning for both projects.
