Romgaz gas sales fall 5.6% in Romania over nine months

Romania’s state-controlled gas producer Romgaz reported lower natural gas production and sales in the first nine months of 2026, while electricity generation was broadly stable. Domestic gas sales fell 5.6% year on year to approximately 3.43 billion cubic metres. Production of natural gas declined 2.1%, with output equivalent to 23.14 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Production and electricity output

Total hydrocarbon production decreased 2% to 23.49 million boe. The decline in sales was steeper than the fall in production, indicating that lower volumes were delivered to the domestic market during the period. Romgaz power plants generated 484.1 GWh of electricity, up 0.8% from the corresponding period of 2025.

Neptun Deep project and credit rating

Romgaz is continuing preparations with OMV Petrom for the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The project is expected to materially increase Romania’s domestic gas supply once production begins. Fitch Ratings recently reaffirmed Romgaz’s long-term issuer default rating at BBB- and maintained a negative outlook.
