OMV Petrom, Renovatio commission 130 MW of solar capacity in Romania

OMV Petrom and Renovatio have commissioned three solar plants in Romania with combined capacity of 130 MW. The projects at Tandarei, Bucovat and Cazanesti are supplying electricity to the national grid. OMV Petrom’s ownership stakes account for roughly 65 MW of the installed capacity.

The projects involved combined investment of about €78 million, including €26 million in grants from Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Annual generation is expected to reach around 200 GWh. That output is equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 110,000 households.

Renewable capacity expansion

Commissioning the projects brings OMV Petrom’s renewable portfolio, including jointly owned developments, to around 200 MW. A further 1,200 MW is under construction. The company is targeting more than 2,500 MW of operational renewable capacity by 2030.

The expansion forms part of a broader diversification of OMV Petrom’s power business. The company also operates the 860 MW Brazi gas-fired plant. It is pursuing battery-storage investments in Romania and Bulgaria.

OMV Petrom’s broader renewable pipeline exceeds 2.5 GW, although some projects remain at pre-construction stages.
