A wind project in southeastern Romania is set to change ownership as Portuguese renewable energy group Greenvolt moves forward with another project divestment. The company has agreed to transfer a 253.1 MW wind farm under development to French energy giant Engie, continuing its strategy of selling mature assets while retaining a development focus.
The project, located in Ialomița County, is currently being built by Greenvolt Power. Equipment procurement is underway, with 42 turbines ordered from GE Vernova, and construction is progressing toward a 2027 completion target.
Once commissioned, the Ialomița wind farm is expected to rank among Romania’s largest onshore wind installations. Part of the project’s output will be covered by a 15-year contract for difference, providing predictable revenues and mitigating long-term market exposure.
Although financial details were not disclosed, the acquisition represents a major expansion for Engie’s Romanian operations, effectively doubling its renewable generation capacity to about 500 MW and advancing its target of over 1 GW of renewables and storage capacity by 2030.
For Greenvolt, the sale is part of a wider asset rotation strategy pursued throughout 2025. The group has been monetizing a large share of internally developed projects, typically selling 70–80% of assets at advanced stages, including battery storage projects in Poland, previous wind developments, and a mixed wind-solar portfolio in Spain.
