Renalfa and Eurowind expand Tenevo solar with 242 MW and 311 MW storage

Renalfa and Eurowind Energy have opened the latest phase of Bulgaria’s Tenevo renewable energy complex. The expansion combines 242 MW of solar capacity with 311 MW/773 MWh of battery storage. The project is developed by Renalfa IPP and Eurowind Energy.

Tenevo solar output and planned wind capacity

The solar plant is expected to generate about 332 GWh annually. More than 250 MW of wind capacity is also planned as part of the broader development. Total investment for all phases is expected to exceed €500 million.

Battery operation timeline and role in shifting sales

The solar plant and the first battery phase have been operating since 2025. Additional storage increases the project’s ability to shift electricity sales away from periods of concentrated solar production. The battery expansion is therefore positioned to support flexible delivery alongside solar generation.

Contracting, financing and InvestEU support

Solarpro Holding handled engineering, procurement, construction and project management for the development. Solar financing included €50 million from the EBRD and €53 million from Raiffeisen Bank International. A further €60 million financing package for the second battery phase is expected to be signed shortly.

The development also benefits from an InvestEU guarantee, supporting a project whose commercial performance increasingly depends on flexible delivery rather than solar generation alone.
