Serbia: SEEPEX hits record September trading volume as electricity prices increase

Serbia’s SEEPEX day-ahead electricity market recorded its highest-ever monthly trading volume in September, while average electricity prices increased compared with August.

Trading turnover reached 579,406.3 MWh, representing a 5.9% increase month on month and a 26.6% rise year on year. Average daily trading volume stood at 19,313.5 MWh.

The monthly baseload electricity price increased by 9.7% to €150.01/MWh, while the euro-peak average price rose by 14.1% to €131.83/MWh. Despite the overall increase in prices, peak-period electricity remained cheaper than the full-day average during the month.

On the intraday market, SEEPEX recorded 5,801 MWh of traded volume at an average price of €181.76/MWh. Intraday trading represented roughly 1% of day-ahead turnover, confirming the continued dominance of the day-ahead auction in Serbia’s wholesale electricity market.

The September results further underline the growing role of SEEPEX in Serbia’s wholesale electricity trading, with record day-ahead volumes pointing to increased market activity. At the same time, the higher average intraday price indicates that adjusting electricity positions closer to delivery can involve significantly higher costs.
