Albania: ALPEX day-ahead electricity trading jumps 40% year on year

Electricity trading on Albania’s ALPEX day-ahead market rose sharply in August, with traded volumes reaching 244.5 GWh, an increase of 8% from July and 39.6% compared with the same month a year earlier.

Trading in the Albanian bidding zone totalled 166.2 GWh, while the average market-clearing price stood at €146.88/MWh, reflecting continued strength in regional wholesale electricity prices.

The total value of transactions reached approximately €67.4 million, representing a 73.5% year-on-year increase. The rise in market value significantly outpaced the growth in physical trading volumes, driven by persistently elevated wholesale electricity prices.

The latest figures highlight the growing importance of organised electricity exchange trading in Albania, as market liquidity continues to improve and regional electricity market integration advances.
