Bulgaria approves 5.99% October regulated wholesale gas price increase to €44.10/MWh

Bulgaria has approved a 5.99% increase in its regulated wholesale gas price for October, raising the level to €44.10/MWh before taxes and network charges. The change follows a 5.5% rise in September, according to the approved tariff.

KEVR decision on regulated wholesale price

The energy regulator KEVR retained the original proposed price for October. It rejected a subsequent request by Bulgargaz to raise the tariff to €44.41/MWh.

How October gas supplies are sourced

For October, gas supplies are expected to combine volumes bought under Bulgaria’s long-term Azerbaijani contract with LNG procured through tenders. A relatively small contribution is expected from the Chiren underground storage facility.

Scope of the tariff and heating cost exposure

The approved tariff applies to Bulgargaz supplies to regulated customers, including heat producers. VAT, excise duty and network access and transmission charges are excluded from the stated wholesale price.

Natural gas accounts for more than 70% of residential heating prices, creating exposure for heating suppliers and consumers as winter approaches.
