Hungary has commissioned a hybrid renewable energy facility combining a 70 MW solar plant with an 80 MWh battery. The project is located in Hódmezővásárhely and is described as the country’s largest hybrid renewable installation. Storage capacity is positioned to support growing photovoltaic output.
Hódmezővásárhely project details and investment
The Hódmezővásárhely project was developed by Solar Markt without state subsidies. The investment cost is reported at around €77 million. Electricity generation is supported by a battery system and a utility-scale photovoltaic array.
Battery discharge capability and ancillary services
The battery has 40 MW of discharge capacity, enabling delivery of stored electricity over roughly two hours. It can also participate in Hungary’s ancillary-services market. The services include automatic frequency restoration reserves.
Solar plant footprint, modules and expected generation
The solar installation covers 86.6 hectares and includes around 98,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules. Expected annual generation is about 105 GWh. Risen Energy supplied the solar modules for the project.
Equipment suppliers, optimisation and corporate offtake
Sungrow provided the inverters and battery equipment. E.ON handles commercial optimisation for the facility. Electricity from the project is marketed to large corporate buyers through long-term power purchase agreements.
