Natural gas transmission system operators of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, GA-MA and Bulgartransgaz have reached a draft agreement on the connection between the two national gas networks.
Bulgartransgaz already announced that it will hold a public consultations on the business rules of the project for gas interconnection at the point Kyustendil (Bulgaria) – Zhidilovo (Macedonia), which will last between 18 and 28 October. The agreement is expected to be officially signed on 1 November.
The experts say that this is being done in order to bypass the conditions imposed by Russian Gazprom and for North Macedonia to receive a stable supply of natural gas through Bulgaria during the energy crisis.
The North Macedonian Government also adopted a decision allowing GA-MA to sign the agreement with Bulgartransgaz and thereby liberalize the gas market and harmonize the transfer of new gas quantities according to EU directives. In the near future, anyone who wants to will be able to import cheaper natural gas, with the only condition to have a license and lease the cross-border capacity.
