Iași Airport in Romania has signed a contract with Strabag Romania for the design and construction of a new solar power plant with battery energy storage system. The project is valued at approximately €3.7 million excluding VAT. The scope covers both generation and storage equipment to be integrated into the airport’s existing electrical infrastructure.
Solar capacity, inverter configuration and battery storage
The planned solar installation will have an installed capacity of 4.42 MW. Electricity produced by the plant will be converted using 21 string inverters, resulting in a combined AC capacity of 3.15 MW. The system will also include a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 4.73 MWh.
Site footprint and supporting electrical and control systems
The solar facility is expected to cover an area of around 58,500 square meters. It will be connected to the airport’s existing electrical infrastructure as part of the integration work. In addition to solar and battery assets, the project includes transformers, internal electrical networks, security systems, a meteorological station, SCADA equipment, and other supporting infrastructure.
Contract timeline and two-phase implementation
Implementation under the contract will be carried out in two phases. The design stage is expected to last three months, followed by seven months of construction. Once completed, the system will supply a portion of Iași Airport’s electricity demand through on-site renewable generation.
