New Solar Power Plant in Kiskunhalas Enhances Hungary’s Renewable Energy Capacity

A new solar power facility has commenced commercial operations in Kiskunhalas, Hungary, contributing an additional 40 MW to the nation’s renewable energy landscape. Developed by SSI Invest and financed through the Trustify Impact I private equity fund, this project underscores Hungary’s ongoing commitment to expanding its sustainable energy infrastructure.

The solar installation occupies around 84 hectares and is equipped with more than 70,000 solar panels. It is anticipated that the plant will produce approximately 64.3 GWh of electricity annually, positioning it as a significant asset in Hungary’s energy portfolio. Furthermore, the project includes provisions for a 40 MWh battery energy storage system, with construction slated to begin in the summer of 2026, contingent upon the necessary permits being secured.

This investment has been supported by the Ministry of National Economy’s Baross Gabor Capital Program, which facilitates funding through a combination of 70% public financing and 30% private investment. This financial structure not only aids in the development of renewable projects but also reinforces Hungary’s strategic objectives for enhancing its energy independence and sustainability.

The entry of this solar power plant into operation reflects broader trends within Europe towards increasing reliance on renewable resources. As countries within the region pursue ambitious climate goals, initiatives like those seen in Kiskunhalas will be crucial in meeting future energy demands while reducing carbon emissions.
