Electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina increased in August compared with August 2025, while both imports and exports declined from year-earlier elevated levels. Gross production reached 529 GWh, rising 15.8% from 457 GWh in August 2025. Net production totalled 473 GWh, with generation mix reported across thermal, hydro and wind.
Generation mix and net output
Thermal generation made up 65.2% of total output, while hydropower accounted for 29.7% and wind farms contributed 5.1%. Net production was broken down into 305 GWh from thermal plants, 141 GWh from hydro and 27 GWh from wind. The figures show that the August output profile remained reliant on thermal generation alongside hydro availability.
Imports and exports decline versus August 2025
Electricity imports fell to 83 GWh in August, down from 172 GWh a year earlier. Exports also decreased, reaching 60 GWh compared with 168 GWh in August 2025. This shift coincided with higher domestic production levels during the month.
Coal output weakens
Coal production weakened over the same period, according to the reported data. Brown coal output fell by about 28% to 210,117 tonnes, while lignite production declined by 17.7% to 114,580 tonnes. The changes in coal output occurred alongside the August generation and trade movements.
