ADMIE secures equipment for €3.5bn of grid projects through 2029

Greek transmission operator ADMIE has secured equipment for projects worth about €3.5 billion, cutting procurement risk across more than half of its €6 billion investment programme through 2029. The move covers grid works scheduled within the operator’s multi-year plan. It follows an early approach to reserve production capacity for key components.

Equipment reservations amid tight European manufacturing capacity

ADMIE has moved early to reserve production capacity for critical equipment, with a focus on high-voltage cables. The operator cited tight European manufacturing capacity as a factor behind the procurement timing. This approach is intended to reduce delays associated with constrained supply.

Under the secured arrangements, ADMIE has contracts covering AC cables for the Dodecanese and Northeastern Aegean interconnections. The same procurement package also includes the DC cable system for the 1 GW Corinth-Kos link. The roughly 1,290-km Corinth-Kos project is described as moving forward.

The Northeastern Aegean interconnection connects Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Skyros and Samos. Completion is targeted for 2030. ADMIE’s procurement strategy also reflects cable availability and manufacturing slots as key constraints on Europe’s transmission expansion.

Financing for 2026-2029 programme and additional Greece-Italy capacity

Funding for the 2026-2029 programme includes a €530 million capital increase at ADMIE Holdings. It also includes proportional participation in ADMIE’s €1 billion capital increase. Financing from the European Investment Bank is part of the programme funding structure.

ADMIE and Terna are also developing a second 1 GW Greece-Italy interconnector. Commercial operation is currently targeted for 2033. The cable-focused procurement approach aligns with the role of manufacturing slots highlighted in ADMIE’s strategy.
