Windey considers equity stake in Fintel’s 854 MW Maestrale Ring wind project

Windey is targeting an equity stake in Fintel’s 854 MW Serbian wind portfolio, according to a new strategic agreement. China’s Windey Energy is also considering direct equity investment in Fintel Energia Group’s 854 MW Maestrale Ring wind project in Serbia. The discussions expand Windey’s role from turbine supplier to prospective project owner.

The agreement covers possible Windey investment not only in Maestrale Ring but also other Fintel assets. It includes around 110 MW already under construction. The partnership builds on an earlier turbine-supply agreement between the parties.

Potential modular AI data centres near Fintel substations

In addition to the wind equity component, the strategic cooperation includes potential modular AI data centres near Fintel substations. The proposed data-centre development is described as being linked to the same broader set of assets covered by the agreement.

The electricity demand associated with the data centres would be located near new generation and grid infrastructure. This arrangement is expected to reduce reliance on pure merchant power sales for the relevant power offtake.

Implications for Serbia’s wind pipeline and grid needs

With a capacity of 854 MW, Maestrale Ring would materially increase Serbia’s wind fleet if fully developed. The project would also add to balancing and transmission requirements as renewable penetration rises. No investment amount, equity percentage, or final transaction structure has been disclosed.

The deal is also framed as a shift in Windey’s Serbian strategy away from selling turbines and toward sharing development and electricity-market risk. The equity component is positioned as a potential source of additional capital for one of Serbia’s largest renewable pipelines.
