In May 2026, a total of 1,103,572.8 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, which is 6.5% lower than in April. Trading activity also fell by 6.9% versus the same month last year. The breakdown showed 872,232.4 MWh on the day-ahead market and 226,340.4 MWh on the intraday market.
Day-ahead and intraday pricing trends
The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in May was 103.58 euros/MWh, up 14.6% compared with the previous month. The average euro-peak price reached 64.94 euros/MWh, increasing by 10.7% from April. On the intraday market, the average price rose to 106.89 euros/MWh, reflecting a 22.1% month-on-month increase.
The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 28,297.8 MWh. This level indicated stable conditions alongside slightly reduced liquidity during the month.
CROPEX market setup and regional coupling
CROPEX was established on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool, described as Europe’s leading electricity exchange. Ownership is shared between the Croatian electricity transmission system operator HOPS and the Croatian electricity market operator HROTE. The intraday market began operations in April 2017.
On 19 June 2018, after a joint project involving Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges, the CROPEX day-ahead market was coupled with the MRC markets via the Croatian–Slovenian border .
