Greece Secures Long-Term LNG Capacity at Revythoussa Terminal

The recent capacity auction conducted by Greece’s gas transmission operator, DESFA, has underscored the growing demand for LNG infrastructure in Greece. This auction, which spans from 2026 to 2040, took place between October 2025 and January 2026, resulting in nearly full booking of the available LNG volumes at the Revythoussa terminal.

During this cycle, DESFA made available 413 LNG unloading slots, translating to approximately 342.5 TWh of energy or about 30.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas. Market participants demonstrated strong interest by booking 409 slots, which corresponds to around 340.5 TWh or 30.42 bcm. This level of participation reflects a sustained commitment to securing long-term access to Greek LNG resources, with up to five users per year reserving capacity.

The results of this auction are closely linked to recent enhancements in Greece’s gas infrastructure. The introduction of new compression stations in Komotini and Ampelia, along with significant reinforcements across the gas network, has improved the capability to transport gas towards northern markets. These developments have reinforced Greece’s strategic position as a reliable entry point for LNG within the broader regional context.

Prior to this latest auction, several years had already seen substantial bookings. Specifically, all cargoes for the years 2027, 2028, and 2029 had been allocated in earlier rounds. The remaining volumes for 2026 and 2030 were secured during this recent auction cycle. As a result, all offered LNG unloading and regasification capacity for these years is now fully committed.
