Fortis Energy starts construction of hybrid solar and battery project in Albania

Hybrid plant built near Erseke with battery storage

Turkish renewable energy developer Fortis Energy has started construction on a hybrid power project in southeastern Albania that combines solar generation with battery storage. The development is located near the town of Erseke, with a separate battery energy storage system sited in the nearby village of Tac-Larte. The project pairs a 75 MW solar power plant with a 40 MWh BESS.

Company estimates indicate the solar facility is expected to generate around 135 GWh of electricity annually. The combined setup is intended to add new renewable capacity to Albania’s power mix, according to the project description.

June 2025 building permit and contracting model

Construction began after Albanian authorities issued a building permit in June 2025, confirming regulatory approval for the development phase. The project execution involves a combination of local contractors and suppliers. International partners are also supporting delivery.

The company’s approach reflects the use of hybrid cooperation models in regional energy infrastructure, as described for this development.

Role in Fortis Energy’s Albania renewables portfolio

The Erseke hybrid project forms part of Fortis Energy’s broader renewable strategy in Albania. The company is developing a generation portfolio totaling 234 MW within the country, alongside the Erseke development.

In parallel, Fortis Energy is advancing additional battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 75 MWh. The company links the expansion to the role of storage in stabilizing variable renewable output across Southeast Europe.
