Montenegrin state utility EPCG is advancing construction of the 40-MW Kapino Polje solar plant near Niksic. The project expands the company’s solar activities beyond rooftop installations that have previously dominated its portfolio. EPCG Solar Gradnja is executing the works as part of the utility-scale development.
Kapino Polje construction status and site works
EPCG Solar Gradnja is working on the L1, L2 and B1 sections, which together total 20 MW. A separate 20-MW B2 section is expected to follow construction. Steel mounting structures have been completed across the first three sections, and about 4 MW of photovoltaic modules have been installed.
Transformer substations and other electrical equipment are planned for addition during the next phase of the project. EPCG Solar Gradnja is responsible for electrical and installation work on site. Part of the supporting structure is being manufactured locally to support delivery.
Local participation in renewable supply chain
EPCG Solar Gradnja said it wants to involve more Montenegrin state-owned enterprises in renewable projects. The company also aims to reduce reliance on imported services for parts of the work. The approach is reflected in local manufacturing of part of the supporting structure.
EPCG Solar Gradnja rooftop pipeline and upcoming projects
The subsidiary has already installed more than 11,000 rooftop systems with a combined capacity of around 110 MW. These deployments were carried out through the Solari 3000+ and Solari 5000+ programmes. EPCG Solar Gradnja is also preparing the Krupac, Ozrinici and Stedim solar projects.
Kapino Polje will serve as a test of whether EPCG Solar Gradnja can translate its rooftop programme into utility-scale delivery. Progress on the project is expected to indicate how much local industry can participate in Montenegro’s next phase of renewable investment.
