In a significant advancement for renewable energy in Romania, CWP Europe has successfully commissioned a new solar power facility in the southern commune of Studina, Olt County. The newly operational 174 MW solar plant marks a critical step in increasing the country’s renewable energy capacity and underscores the growing trend towards sustainable energy solutions in Southeast Europe.
The Studina solar facility is projected to produce approximately 245,000 MWh of electricity annually. This output is sufficient to power over 122,500 households, contributing to a substantial reduction in carbon emissions by avoiding around 220,500 tons of CO₂ each year. Although the total investment for the project has not been disclosed, it is noteworthy that permits have already been secured for an accompanying battery energy storage system. This system is designed to enhance grid flexibility and further optimize the integration of renewable resources.
The construction of this solar plant involved collaboration among various international and regional stakeholders. Siemens Energy played a pivotal role by providing technical support, while SolarPro Holding was responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction services. Additionally, Romanian energy services firm Eximprod contributed significantly to the delivery of the plant.
CWP Europe acquired the Studina project earlier in 2023 with an initial timeline aimed at commencing commercial operations by late 2024. With its commissioning now complete, this facility stands out as one of CWP Europe’s major operational assets within Romania’s expanding renewable energy landscape.
