Romania’s OPCOM Sees Day-Ahead Power Prices Surge to €150.5/MWh in January 2026

The Romanian electricity market has experienced a notable shift, with the average price on the day-ahead market at OPCOM reaching 150.51 euros/MWh in January 2026. This figure marks a significant increase of 7.74% from January 2025 and a remarkable 27.94% rise compared to December 2025, when the average baseload price was recorded at 117.64 euros/MWh.

The total traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 1.52 million MWh, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 7.75%. However, this volume was up by 3.63% compared to December 2025, with an average hourly traded volume of 2,044.2 MWh/h.

Total transaction value for January reached 236.1 million euros, which represents a decrease of 3.38% compared to the same month last year, when it stood at 244.3 million euros. In contrast, this figure reflects a substantial increase of 34.69% from December’s transaction value of 175.3 million euros. Notably, the day-ahead segment accounted for 32.04% of forecasted net consumption.

<pMeanwhile, in the intraday market, trading reached a total of 160,045.5 MWh. This volume indicates a decrease of 12% compared to January 2025 and is also down by 6.57% from December levels. The average intraday price surged to 160.9 euros/MWh, representing an increase of 21.25% year-on-year and up by 30.99% from the previous month.
