Bosnia and Herzegovina, Country is planning to introduce CO2 emissions pricing and trading system by early 2026

According to BiH Foreign Ministry, the country is planning to introduce CO2 emissions pricing and trading system by early 2026.

Head of department for energy policy at the Foreign Ministry Branka Knezevic said at the Trebinje Energy Summit that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Energy Community Secretariat, has already prepared a draft roadmap for the introduction of CO2 emissions pricing and trading system, similar to that in the EU.

Knezevic said that by introducing its own system, BiH will avoid EU’s planned Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which involves paying carbon border tax for any energy sales within the EU. CBAM is planned to come into effect in 2026.
