The Bijela wind project, located near Šavnik, has made significant strides towards construction following the recent approval of its environmental impact assessment by Montenegro’s Environmental Protection Agency. This approval marks a crucial milestone in the development of what is set to be one of the largest onshore wind farms in the country, with an overall investment of approximately €200 million.
The approved environmental impact assessment includes provisions for a 110 kV transmission line, ensuring compliance with legal standards. The assessment outlines necessary mitigation measures designed to minimize potential environmental impacts throughout the construction and operational phases, as well as during any emergencies that may arise.
Spanning nearly 30 hectares, the site will feature 17 wind turbines with a combined installed capacity of up to 118.8 MW. The wind farm’s connection to the national grid will be facilitated by a 110 kV overhead transmission line that links the future Bijela substation to the existing Brezna substation, incorporating an underground section measuring 580 meters near Brezna village.
Alcazar Energy Partners is spearheading this initiative with plans to bolster its investments in Montenegro’s energy sector significantly. Construction contracts were secured in September 2023 with local firms Sistem MNE and Simes inzenjering, while a network connection agreement was finalized with CGES in September 2024. This aligns with Alcazar’s broader strategy to invest up to €500 million in Montenegro’s energy landscape by 2030.
With €200 million earmarked specifically for the Bijela wind farm, this project exemplifies Alcazar Energy’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio in the region and represents a pivotal step toward enhancing Montenegro’s renewable energy capabilities.
