Romania’s OPCOM Market Reports Declining Prices and Volumes in April 2026

April 2026 saw the average electricity price on Romania’s day-ahead market, managed by OPCOM, reach €95.55/MWh. This figure indicates a year-on-year increase of 10.55%, yet it reflects a decline of 9.13% from the previous month, March 2026, where the average baseload price was recorded at €105.15/MWh.

The overall activity in the electricity market exhibited mixed trends during this period. The total traded volume on the day-ahead market was approximately 1.14 million MWh, which is down by 1.28% compared to April 2025 and significantly lower by 15.97% from March 2026. The average hourly traded volume dropped to 1,582.4 MWh/h, signaling a marked slowdown in short-term trading activities.

Total transaction values for April reached €115.1 million, representing a rise of 7.72% from April 2025, when transactions totaled €106.8 million. However, this figure reflects a notable decrease of 22.32% compared to March 2026, which had seen transaction values at €148.1 million. The share of the day-ahead market against forecasted net consumption for April 2026 was recorded at 31.66%, indicating stable participation levels relative to system demand.

The intraday market also experienced significant changes, with total trades amounting to 147,579.2 MWh. This represents a year-on-year decline of 29.28%, and a month-on-month decrease of 6.65%. The average price in the intraday market was noted at €56.18/MWh, reflecting a drop of 20.49% compared to April 2025 and a substantial decrease of 36.17% from March 2026, highlighting an easing of short-term price pressures and increased volatility within intraday trading conditions.
