Romania: Unit 2 of NPP Cernavoda was disconnected for two days

The plant’s unit 2 was reconnected back to the grid around 07:00 on 31 August, said Romanian electricity producer Nuclerelectrica, the operator of the country’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda.

Unit 2 was automatically disconnected from the national electricity system in the morning of 29 August, due to a malfunction in the conventional part of the unit, without impact on the nuclear side. The automatic disconnection occurred safely, all systems of the unit are operating within normal parameters.

The automatic disconnection of unit 2 at NPP Cernavoda did not have an impact on nuclear safety, personnel, population and the environment, and necessary repairs were carried out in accordance with the applicable procedures of the plant.
