According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first seven months of 2021 amounted to 32.46 TWh, which is 7 % more compared to the same period in 2020.
The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 24.03 TWh, which is 6.7 % more compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 8.12 TWh, which is a 8.4 % increase. Public lighting consumption fell by 3.1 % amounting to some 304.7 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 35.8 TWh in the first seven months of the year, which is 11.4 % more compared to the same period in 2020. Production in thermal power plants increased by 13.2 % and reached 12.63 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 31.6 % to 12.05 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 3.5 % to 6.25 TWh. Production of wind power dropped by 11.3 % compared to the same period of 2020, reaching 3.78 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.09 TWh, the same as in the first seven months of 2020.
Electricity exports in January-July 2021 amounted to 4.41 TWh, which is by 52.5 % more compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time electricity imports increased by 4.6 % and amounted to 4.46 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first seven months of 2021 amounted to 10,907 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.7 % more than in 2020. Coal production reached 1,819 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 25.3 %), oil production reached 1,825 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.9 %), while production of natural gas reached 4,276 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 1.6 %).
