The modernization project of the 400/110/20 kV Domnesti substation, is 95 % completed and the upgraded substation should be commissioned by the end of June, said Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica. This investment is worth some 25 million euros.
The project, which was launched almost three years ago, involves upgrading the station at all voltage levels, with the aim to bring it to a degree of safety and reliability appropriate to the importance of the area served.
The investment is part of the extensive process carried out by the company to consolidate the electricity transmission infrastructure in the Bucharest area, in the context in which Ilfov County together with Bucharest is the most concentrated area of electricity consumption in the country, respectively about 15 % of total national consumption.
The 400/110/20 kV Domnesti substation is one of the important nodes of the national electricity system in terms of electricity supply to the capital, together with the 400/220/110/10 kV Bucharest South substation and the 220/110/10 kV Fundeni substation.
The substation represents both one of the injection points in the distribution network of the Municipality of Bucharest, and a power transit node between the Oltenia, Muntenia and Southern Transylvania areas. The 110 kV Domnesti substation was put into operation in 1980, and the 400 kV substation was put into operation in 1982.
