Slovenia extends application deadline for €68.97m electricity distribution investment

Slovenia has extended the application deadline for its €68.97 million electricity distribution investment programme to 30 November 2026, giving applicants additional time to complete technical documentation. The previous deadline was 31 October. The funding allocation remains unchanged.

Funding split and ministry rationale

The programme is designed to support upgrades to distribution substations, transformer stations and low- and medium-voltage networks. Its stated aim is to accommodate additional generation and consumption while improving flexibility. The Infrastructure and Energy Ministry said the extension is intended to allow applicants to submit more fully prepared proposals.

European funds will provide approximately €51.1 million, with around €17.9 million coming from Slovenia’s national budget. The total allocation therefore remains at €68.97 million. The extension does not change the overall funding level.

Network upgrades linked to connection capacity

Distribution investment is becoming increasingly significant as rooftop solar, electric vehicles and changing consumption patterns place new demands on local networks. Connection capacity can affect whether renewable and electrification projects proceed on schedule.

For applicants, the extra month provides time to strengthen project design and supporting documentation. The commercial benefit will depend on how quickly approved investments create usable capacity at locations where new connections are needed.
