Hungary: ABO Energy secures debt financing from Berenberg Bank for 55 MW solar projects

German renewable energy developer ABO Energy has secured debt financing from Hamburg-based Berenberg Bank to support the construction of three solar power plants in Hungary, with a total installed capacity of 55 MW.

According to a statement from the bank, the financing is being provided through Berenberg’s Green Energy Debt funds, which the bank manages as an investment advisor. This flexible financing arrangement allows ABO Energy the option to sell part or all of the solar portfolio within a set timeframe or transition to long-term financing if needed.

Torsten Heidemann, Head of Infrastructure & Energy at Berenberg, expressed excitement about the continued partnership with ABO Energy. He highlighted that this financing further strengthens their position in the rapidly growing utility-scale solar market. Along with Poland, Hungary is becoming a key solar power producer in Central and Eastern Europe. Since its founding in 1996, ABO Energy has developed over 5,500 MW of renewable energy projects, with roughly 2,500 MW of that capacity already built.
