European solar and wind energy trends: Mixed performance across key markets in mid-December

During the week of December 15, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy production declined across most major European electricity markets compared to the previous week. The Italian market experienced the steepest drop, falling by 41%, followed by the French and Spanish markets with decreases of 26% and 19%, respectively. The Portuguese market saw the smallest reduction at 6.7%. Notably, the Spanish and Portuguese markets continued their downward trend for the fourth consecutive week. The German market was the exception, as solar production increased for the third consecutive week, rising by 30%.

For the week of December 22, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that solar energy production will increase in Spain and Italy, while it is expected to decline in Germany.

Regarding wind energy, during the week of December 15, production rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The Italian market registered the largest increase, surging by 132% and reversing the downward trend observed over the prior two weeks. The French and Spanish markets followed with increases of 26% and 9.3%, respectively, while the Portuguese market recorded the smallest gain at 7.9%. The German market again stood out as an exception, with wind energy production falling by 12% after one week of growth.

For the week of December 22, AleaSoft forecasts wind energy production to rise in Germany, France, and Italy, whereas production is expected to decline in Portugal and remain relatively stable in Spain compared to the previous week, AleaSoft reports.
