Europe: Electricity demand rises mid-December before forecasted decline

During the week of December 15, electricity demand rose across most major European markets compared to the previous week, reversing the downward trend seen earlier. The German market was the exception, experiencing a second consecutive week of decline, with demand falling by 3.1%. The British and Portuguese markets recorded the largest increases, at 4.9% and 7.0%, respectively. In contrast, after three weeks of declines, the French market saw the smallest rise, 1.2%, while other markets experienced increases ranging from 1.3% in Belgium to 2.7% in Spain.

In the third week of December, average temperatures were colder than the previous week in most analyzed markets. Germany recorded the largest drop, 3.4 °C, while France had the smallest decrease, 0.9 °C. Great Britain and Italy were exceptions, with average temperatures rising by 0.4 °C and 0.9 °C, respectively.

For the week of December 22, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that electricity demand will decline in major European markets, AleaSoft reports.
