During the week of August 11, electricity demand rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The British market recorded the largest increase at 12% following three consecutive weeks of decline. Belgium continued its upward trend from the previous two weeks, rising 6.2%. Germany and France reversed declines from the last two and three weeks, respectively, with increases of 3.0% and 4.3%. Spanish demand grew for the second consecutive week, up 1.5%.
Portugal and Italy were exceptions. Portuguese demand fell for the second consecutive week, dropping 3.5%, while the Italian market declined 1.4%, continuing a three-week downward trend.
Rising average temperatures across all analyzed markets contributed to higher electricity demand. Temperature increases ranged from 2.0 °C in Spain to 3.3 °C in France. Demand growth persisted despite the August 15 national holiday, the Assumption of the Virgin, observed in Spain, Belgium, France, Italy, and Portugal, largely due to a heat wave affecting several of these countries.
For the week of August 18, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that electricity demand will increase in Germany, Spain, and Italy, while it is expected to decline in France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, AleaSoft reports.
