DESFA tenders floating LNG jetty for Revythoussa bunkering and feeder supply

DESFA is preparing new infrastructure at the Revythoussa LNG terminal in Greece to enable the facility to expand beyond conventional gas imports and act as a supply point for LNG-fuelled shipping. The changes are linked to a tender launched in early August for a small-scale floating LNG jetty. The contract is valued at approximately €15 million excluding VAT. Bids are due by 21 September, with construction expected to take around 18 months after contract award.

Floating jetty tender and build timeline

DESFA’s tender covers the delivery of a small-scale floating LNG jetty at Revythoussa. The procurement was initiated in early August, and the contract value is set at approximately €15 million excluding VAT. Bids must be submitted by 21 September. Construction is expected to last around 18 months following the awarding of the contract.

LNG loading for bunkering and feeder vessel operations

The planned infrastructure would allow bunker and feeder vessels to load LNG directly at Revythoussa. It would also enable those vessels to supply ships operating from Piraeus and surrounding ports. Potential users identified for the service include container vessels, cargo ships and Ro-Pax ferries.

Ship-to-ship refuelling capability and broader port distribution

The jetty is also being designed to accommodate direct ship-to-ship refuelling. This configuration could extend LNG bunkering services to larger vessels, including cruise ships. Beyond the Athens maritime market, smaller feeder vessels could transport LNG from Revythoussa to storage facilities, satellite terminals and distribution points at other Greek ports.

Revythoussa’s role alongside Greece’s gas transmission system

The project would add a commercial function to an asset traditionally focused on feeding gas into Greece’s transmission system. Combining conventional LNG imports with bunkering and coastal distribution would position Revythoussa as a logistics hub supporting maritime gas demand. The hub would serve customers outside the main pipeline network through small-scale LNG distribution routes across Greek ports.
