Tadic: Peace, stability, economic development, social reforms and regional cooperation represent Serbia of the 21st century

Serbian President Boris Tadic stated on Tuesday that Sitel’s latest investment is a sign that Serbia is a good investment destination and a politically and economically stable country.

Not only is the opening of the centre a good sign for the cooperation between Serbia and the U.S., it is also a message that Serbia is a good investment destination and that it offers very good and high-quality conditions to investors, Tadic said at a ceremony staged on the occasion of Sitel’s arrival in Serbia.

He underscored that the U.S. is Serbia’s strategic and economic partner and that EU membership is the country’s strategic goal. Tadic said that Serbia is now a politically and economically stable country.

“Peace, stability, economic development, social reforms and regional cooperation represent Serbia of the 21st century,” Tadic underlined.

Sitel is the world leader in the sector of service call centres. Serbia welcomes Sitel’s investment and it will offer you a friendly environment and atmosphere, Tadic said at Sitel’s presentation, which was also attended by U.S. Ambassador Mary Warlick and the company’s top officials.

According to Tadic, Serbia’s incentives, tax policy and potential for employing local population and university degree holders who are fluent in foreign languages make the country a good investment destination. Sitel’s arrival should serve as a guide for younger generations that they should strive to obtain knowledge and learn foreign languages because this increases their chances of finding good jobs.

Reflecting on the global economic crisis that started back in 2008 and its latest wave, Tadic pointed out that the most important task for now is to get ready for the upcoming crisis blow. He underscored that Serbia has major problems which will persist in the time to come and added that this point should not be kept secret from citizens.

At the same time, Tadic noted that Serbia did not create the 2008 crisis or its new wave which would hit the world in 2011 and 2012, but it has to do all it can to prepare itself for the blow and preserve its economic potentials for the future.

Tadic said that he believes the government, institutions and businessmen are considering various positive measures which would be carried out in the time to come, but the chief one is embodied in the reduction of government costs, and added that Serbia is to tackle this issue in 2012.

As one of the important measures for preventing the consequences of the crisis, Tadic listed economic cooperation and coordination on the level of the country, the region, Europe and globally. In the times of economic crisis, carefully selected investments are important for sustainable economic development and recovery, Tadic said.
