Rețele Electrice România plans to invest about €23.5 million, including VAT, in the Cetate substation in Timișoara. The upgrade will replace ageing equipment and add capacity at a site serving more than 25,000 customers. The project is described as a substation expansion focused on strengthening the local electricity network.
Transformer and switchgear scope
A new 40 MVA transformer will be installed to supplement the substation’s existing 65 MVA capacity. The works also include 110 kV switchgear, along with lower-voltage equipment. A control-room upgrade is part of the scope and will be connected to the company’s remote management system.
Funding and project timeline
European funding of around €12.3 million, excluding VAT, will cover part of the investment. Completion is planned within 39 months of the financing agreement taking effect. The investment is intended to improve reliability for existing customers while providing additional capacity for changing demand on the local grid.
