In February 2026, Slovenia’s net electricity generation reached 1,182 GWh, reflecting a 2% increase year-on-year, according to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. However, this figure indicates a 3% decline compared to January 2026, suggesting seasonal fluctuations in output.
The energy production landscape saw notable shifts. Thermal power plants contributed 336 GWh, a decrease of 10% from February 2025. Conversely, hydropower production rose by 13% to 306 GWh, indicating a robust performance in this sector. The Krško Nuclear Power Plant maintained its output at approximately 472 GWh, underscoring its critical role in Slovenia’s energy mix. Additionally, the contribution from winds and solar sources surged by 52% to 68 GWh, highlighting the ongoing expansion of renewable energy resources in the country.
The dynamics of electricity trade also evolved during this period. Slovenia imported 654 GWh of electricity in February 2026, marking a significant reduction of 26% compared to February 2024. Meanwhile, exports totaled 672 GWh, down by 20%. This trend indicates a slight decrease in both import reliance and export activities.
A decline in electricity consumption was noted across various sectors. Households consumed 311 GWh, representing a substantial drop of 24%. Commercial consumers reported usage of 572 GWh, down by 12%. These figures point to reduced overall demand for electricity during the month.
The broader energy supply landscape presented mixed results. While most commodities experienced declines, the supply of other petroleum products saw a dramatic increase of 216%. Kerosene and LPG also posted increases, rising by 16% and 5%, respectively. In contrast, there were significant decreases in the supply of natural gas (−25%), lignite and brown coal (−21%), petrol (−13%), coke (−10%), hard coal (−9%), and heating oil (−5%) when compared to January.
A year-on-year analysis reveals even steeper declines for several energy products. The supply of other petroleum products decreased by 59%, while lignite and brown coal fell by 34%. LPG saw a decline of 14%, hard coal dropped by 10%, and petrol fell by 3%. These trends highlight significant shifts in Slovenia’s energy consumption patterns as the country continues to navigate its transition towards more sustainable energy solutions.
