Serbia: EPS continues with the reconstruction of distribution network damaged in 2014 floods

Successful cooperation of state-owned power utility EPS and the World Bank will enable the reconstruction of obsolete and damaged electricity distribution network and the purchase of equipment for emergency power supply in the event of natural disasters, such as catastrophic floods that hit parts of Serbia in May 2014.

This project, financed by the World Bank, started in September 2014 as a part of emergency rehabilitation after the May floods and consists of several subprojects. For 2017, the reconstruction of five 110 kV substations is planned, as well as replacement of some 20,000 electricity meters and procurement of metering equipment for public lighting. The funds for this project are provided through the loan by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

The statement from EPS said that the reconstruction of substations in Loznica, Gornji Milanovac, Aleksinac, Sabac and Petrovac na Mlavi is planned for this year. The tender for the procurement of equipment is already published and is currently in evaluation stage. 17 bids have been submitted, of which 7 are submitted by local companies.

The period planned for the realization of this project is between 12 and 15 months, while its worth is about 15 million euros. The statement from EPS said that more details regarding this project will be known in the second quarter of 2017.
