Romania: Electrica plans 69.93 MWh energy storage project in Mureș County with €21.8 million investment

Romanian electricity supplier and distributor Electrica has announced plans to develop a 69.93 MWh energy storage project in the Fantanele commune, Mureș County, with an investment of approximately €21.8 million. The company has secured €3.4 million in non-refundable EU funds for the project through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

This marks Electrica’s second project funded by the NRRP, following the €27 million Satu Mare 2 solar project, which received funding in October 2023.

Additionally, Electrica recently completed the acquisition of a ready-to-build solar project in Romania with an installed capacity of 77.5 MW. The company acquired Foton Power Energy, which is developing the Bihor 1 solar power plant near Oradea in northwestern Romania.

In July, Electrica also announced the completion of the acquisition of a 57 MW solar project in Satu Mare County, which is in the ready-to-build stage. This project was purchased from New Trend Energy in 2021 for approximately €3.25 million.
