In 2019, most of EU member states in south eastern Europe managed to reach their renewable energy targets for that year and in total, 14 EU member states have reached their target for 2019, according to According to data published by Eurostat.
Croatia’s share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption reached 28.5 % in 2019, exceeding the country’s national 2020 binding target by 8.5 %. Bulgaria follows with 21.5 %, exceeding the 2020 target by 5.6 %. Greece reached 19.7 % RES share, 1.7 % above the target set for 2020. Romania scraped by with 24.3 %, just 0.3 % above the target share.
On the other hand, Slovenia reached 21.7 % RES share, which is 3.3 % below its target.
In total, 28 EU member states reached 18.9 % share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption, just shy of 2020 target of 20 %. The target for 2030 is at least 32 % share.
