Hungary and Serbia have agreed to accelerate the construction of an oil pipeline between the two countries in response to US sanctions that pose a threat to Europe’s energy security. The announcement was made by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto, following discussions with Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic.
Minister Szijjarto stated that, in light of recent developments, the two countries reached an agreement to fast-track joint energy security investments. This includes the construction of a new interconnector for their electricity networks and the first joint oil pipeline between Hungary and Serbia. Szijjarto also criticized the impact of sanctions imposed by certain global powers, particularly US sanctions targeting Russian oil and gas companies, as well as the Serbian oil company NIS. He argued that these decisions were made without regard for the interests of US allies, creating significant challenges for countries in Europe.
