Croatia: Construction of Zabok-Lucko gas pipeline set to begin with EU recovery funds

Construction is set to begin on the Zabok-Lucko main gas pipeline, a project funded by the Croatian Government through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism as part of the infrastructure support for the LNG terminal strategic investment project.

The new pipeline will improve the flexibility of managing existing transport capacities and increase the pipeline’s capacity to Slovenia from the current 0.26 billion to 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

Following a public procurement process, Plinacro signed a turnkey public works contract worth 51.83 million euros (excluding VAT) for the pipeline’s construction. The contract was awarded to a consortium consisting of Monter Strojarske Montaze, Pico Flow Controls, SCAN, and Monting. The project is expected to be completed within 15 months from the start of construction.

With works on the Zlobin-Bosiljevo main gas pipeline nearing completion and the procurement of pipes from Turkey, which are stored in Lucko, preparations are underway to begin the project. The total estimated cost of constructing the Zabok-Lucko gas pipeline is 78 million euros, fully financed through non-refundable funds from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism under the REPowerEU plan.

The 36-kilometer pipeline will pass through Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagreb County, and the city of Zagreb. It will mainly follow the existing main gas pipeline corridor, covering the cities of Zabok, Oroslavje, Zapresic, and Sveta Nedelja, as well as the municipalities of Jakovlje and Bistra.
