June 2026 output and demand coverage
North Macedonia produced 408,045 MWh of electricity in June 2026, down 13.2% from June 2025. The State Statistical Office data cited show total electricity consumption at 446,814 MWh. Domestic generation covered 91.3% of demand during the month, according to the same figures.
Weaker thermal, wind and solar generation contributed to the year-on-year decline, while hydropower output increased. The monthly generation pattern therefore reflected contrasting movements across major power sources.
Thermal, hydro, wind and solar generation changes
Thermal power plants generated 131,405 MWh, accounting for 32.2% of total production. Thermal output was 23.6% lower year on year. Hydro generation increased as thermal fell, shifting the overall mix.
Hydropower plants produced 99,639 MWh, representing 24.4% of total output. Hydro generation was up 36% compared with June 2025. Wind farms generated 14,010 MWh, down 13.4%.
Solar plants, including prosumers, generated 159,796 MWh. Solar remained the largest individual source in June with a 39.2% share of total generation. Solar output was 12.2% below the previous year.
Cross-border trade and import dependence for balance
Total electricity imports fell to 99,906 MWh, compared with 113,250 MWh in June 2025. Exports declined more sharply to 61,137 MWh, from 102,494 MWh a year earlier. The trade figures show a weaker export position alongside reduced imports versus the prior year.
The June data indicate a generation mix influenced by variability in solar and hydropower output. With domestic production covering most consumption during the month, the remaining balance relied on imports where thermal and other renewable output declined. This left cross-border flows relevant to meeting demand requirements during June.
