Montenegro: EPCG launches tender for installation of Unit A8 at Perucica hydropower plant with €40 million KfW loan

Montenegrin state-owned power utility EPCG has issued a tender for the installation of unit A8 at its Perucica hydropower plant. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the German Development Bank (KfW), which provided EPCG with a 40 million euro loan in September to finance the installation of the new unit.

The Perucica hydropower plant’s auxiliary systems, machine hall, and 110 kV switchyard were constructed during the final phase of the project, which included plans for the installation of an eighth unit in addition to the existing seven. Unit A8 will have a nominal capacity of 58.5 MW, boosting the plant’s total capacity from 307 MW to 365.5 MW. The plant’s flow will also increase from 68 to 80.75 cubic meters per second.

The project involves the installation, delivery, assembly, and commissioning of electromechanical equipment, as well as construction work on the discharge system, including completing the tunnel for unit A8 and connecting it to the Zeta River’s riverbed. Additional supporting construction work will be carried out to facilitate the installation of the electromechanical equipment for the new unit.

The deadline for submitting bids is April 2, 2025, with the commissioning of unit A8 planned for 2027. EPCG has also signed a connection agreement with the electricity transmission system operator CGES in April to integrate unit A8 into the transmission grid.
