Monsson Group transfers 50 MW solar plant to NEPI Rockcastle for construction in 2025

Local renewables developer Monsson Group has successfully completed the transfer of full ownership of a 50 MW solar power plant in the Chisinau-Cris area of Arad County. The fully licensed project is now set for construction, with NEPI Rockcastle, a leading owner and operator of shopping centers in Central and Eastern Europe, scheduled to begin building the facility in January 2025.

Sebastian Enache, a member of Monsson’s Board of Directors, expressed excitement about this partnership with NEPI Rockcastle, emphasizing the importance of major energy consumers investing in renewable energy to enhance efficiency. He noted that this project is just the beginning of the group’s renewable energy efforts.

The 50 MW solar power project has been part of Monsson’s portfolio since 2022 and obtained a construction permit in 2024. A network connection contract was also signed earlier this year, and all necessary conditions are now in place for construction to begin in 2025. The project will feature an energy storage unit to optimize performance and contribute to the stability of the national energy system.

Andrei Radu, Group Development Director at NEPI Rockcastle, outlined the company’s green energy program, which progresses in three phases. The first phase, completed in early 2024, involved the installation of solar panels at 27 locations across Romania, totaling 38 MW and generating 7.3 million euros in revenue during the first nine months. In the second phase, NEPI Rockcastle plans to extend its solar panel installations to properties outside Romania, with 24 sites currently in the design or authorization phase.

The third phase involves the 50 MW project in western Romania, developed in partnership with Monsson, which is set to begin soon. The company is also evaluating a potential site for a larger solar project with a capacity of over 100 MW, for which it has allocated an investment of around 100 million euros.
