Macedonia: TSO MEPSO joins regional Coordinated auction office SEE CAO

Macedonian electricity transmission system operator MEPSO signed the contract according to which it became the founding partner in the Southeastern Europe Coordinated Auction Office (SEE CAO), a regional company that organizes auctions for cross-border transmission capacities.

The statement from MEPSO said that the accession of the company to SEE CAO is a step forward that will facilitate the cross-border electricity trade at regional level. SEE CAO has been designed to coordinate cross-border capacity auctions in the region and thus reduce the costs of the participants in the regional electricity market. By joining the SEE CAO, the company has also fulfilled one of the commitments undertaken with the ratification of the Treaty on the establishment of the European Energy Community.

Southeastern Europe Coordinated Auction Office (SEE CAO) started in June 2012 when ten electricity transmission system operators (TSO) from Southeastern Europe established a Project Team Company (PTC) in charge of the establishment of Coordinated Auction Office in this part of Europe. In March 2014, seven out of ten TSOs signed the agreement on the establishment of SEE CAO. The shareholders are Turkish electricity transmission company (TEIAS), Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE), Croatian transmission system operator (HOPS), Montenegrin transmission system operator (CGES), Independent system operator of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NOS BiH), Albanian transmission system operator (OST) and Kosovo’s transmission system and market operator (KOSTT).

So far, SEE CAO organized monthly and daily auctions on the following borders: Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and HerzegovinaMontenegro, Montenegro-Albania, MontenegroKosovo, Albania-Kosovo, Albania-Greece and Turkey-Greece, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
