IBEX May 2026 trading volumes rise as day-ahead prices increase

Electricity trading on the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) increased in May 2026, with activity recorded across both day-ahead and intraday markets. On the day-ahead segment, 2,675,874 MWh was traded during the month. This total represented a 4% rise compared with the previous month. The average daily traded volume reached 86,318.5 MWh.

Compared with the same month last year, trading activity in May 2026 was 20.2% higher. Market participation also edged up on the day-ahead market, where 154 registered participants were recorded. That figure was one more than in April. This change reflected a slight expansion in the number of exchange participants.

Day-ahead price levels for May 2026

Average pricing on the IBEX day-ahead market moved higher in May 2026. The average baseload price stood at 101.07 euros/MWh, up 11% from April’s 90.99 euros/MWh. The average peak price increased to 61.05 euros/MWh. That represented a 6% rise versus the previous month.

Intraday continuous market volumes and weighted prices

On the intraday continuous market, total traded volume in May 2026 reached 737,085.6 MWh. This was an 11% decrease compared with the previous period. Despite lower volumes, the average weighted price rose to 89.44 euros/MWh. The increase amounted to 36.1%, indicating higher price movement during intraday trading.

The reported intraday figures show a shift in volume and pricing dynamics within the same month’s market activity.
