Hungary: RES auction under METAR support scheme

The second renewables auction under the METAR framework has been concluded with 210 MW of solar projects winning the round, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) announced. The tech-neutral auction attracted huge interest among RES investors, but only 36 or 257 bidders were successful with only solar projects. Bidders applied to receive incentives under the METAR support scheme for a total installed capacity of 2,145 GWh compared to 390 GWh that was offered at the auction.

In the category of large-scale solar power plants, ranging from 1 to 49.99 MW, a total of 185 MW of installed capacity was awarded. In the small-scale category, ranging from 0.301 to 0.99 MW, additional 25 MW will receive support.

The average bidding price in the small-scale solar category stood at 0.062 euros/kWh, while the price in the large-scale category averaged at 0.05 euros/kWh. This is some 23 % lower compared to the previous auction held in 2019.
