Montenegro’s average household electricity bill increased to €49.31 in August, according to state utility EPCG. The figure was up 25% compared with the same month of 2025. EPCG also said the August level was 16.4% higher than July’s €42.36.
Households consumed 173.6 million kWh during August. That represented a 21.25% increase versus August 2025 and a 17.48% rise from July. The change coincided with stronger summer demand.
Municipal bill levels vary across Montenegro
EPCG reported that Ulcinj recorded the highest average household bill at €89.10. Pljevlja had the lowest at €21.70. The utility linked the municipal differences to summer demand patterns along the coast.
EPCG said just over half of households received bills below €30. Another 18.14% of customers paid between €30 and €50. A further 19.97% were billed between €50 and €100, while 10.32% received bills exceeding €100.
EPCG discounts and drivers of summer consumption
EPCG granted payment discounts to 117,336 customers, representing about 28.2% of consumers. The utility attributed the August increase to tourism, air-conditioning use and seasonal population growth affecting the summer power balance.
EPCG added that domestic generation is exposed to hydrological conditions. It said stronger coastal consumption can increase the need for market purchases during expensive peak periods.
