Greenvolt Secures €348 Million for 253 MW Wind Farm in Romania

Greenvolt Group, a Portuguese renewable energy developer, has successfully secured €348 million in financing aimed at facilitating the construction of a significant wind farm in Ialomita County, southeastern Romania. This project will have a total capacity of 253.1 MW, positioning it as a key player in the region’s renewable energy landscape.

The financing arrangement involved several prominent financial institutions, including UniCredit Bank, Erste Group Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, Societe Generale, BRD Groupe Societe Generale, and Siemens Bank. This collaboration not only highlights the project’s financial backing but also includes supplementary credit facilities that are essential for its development.

Despite the sale of the wind farm to Engie Romania scheduled for late 2025, Greenvolt will maintain oversight of development activities through its subsidiary, Greenvolt Power. The company is tasked with engineering, construction, and commissioning responsibilities until the facility achieves commercial operation status. This operational strategy ensures that Greenvolt’s expertise remains integral to the project’s success until it transitions to Engie.

The Ialomita project stands out as one of the largest privately developed renewable energy initiatives currently under construction in Romania. With commercial operations expected to commence in 2027, this venture reflects a growing trend towards large-scale renewable energy projects within the country.

In addition to the Ialomita wind farm, Greenvolt has established a robust pipeline within Romania’s renewable sector. The company’s ongoing projects include 555 MW of wind capacity, 77 MW of solar power generation, and 156 MW of battery storage solutions. This diverse portfolio underscores Greenvolt’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the Romanian energy market and contributing to the region’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
