Eurowind Energy initiates Romania’s first hybrid wind-solar project with significant capacity and investment

Danish energy developer Eurowind Energy is poised to enhance Romania’s renewable energy portfolio with its inaugural hybrid project, named Siminoc. This facility will integrate wind turbines and solar panels on a single site, targeting a total capacity of nearly 50 MW, divided equally between the two technologies. The project underscores the growing trend of hybrid renewable installations in the region.

Located in Constanța County, the Siminoc project represents an investment of around €65 million. It is anticipated to leverage Romania’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) support mechanism, which aims to provide financial stability and predictability once electricity generation commences. The plant is projected to produce approximately 120 GWh annually, sufficient to supply power to over 50,000 households.

Currently in its early development phase, permitting activities are expected to extend into the first half of 2026. Construction is slated to commence in 2027, with full operational capacity projected by 2028. Key technical decisions regarding the selection of wind turbines, solar modules, and potential battery storage integration will be made during the forthcoming procurement phase.

Eurowind’s entry into hybrid energy solutions aligns with its long-term strategic vision for the Romanian market, where it has been active since 2011. The company currently operates four solar power plants within Romania and aims to achieve a total installed capacity of 124 MW by the end of Q2 2026.

The Siminoc hybrid installation is part of a larger pipeline of projects totaling 7.5 GW that Eurowind is developing across Romania. This initiative marks a significant shift towards more integrated renewable energy solutions and highlights Eurowind’s expanding footprint in southeastern Europe’s energy landscape.
